I’m currently working as a long-term substitute teacher, in an elementary classroom, in rural Oklahoma as I search for a teaching position of my own. My current job has helped me to grow as an educator and made me extremely excited for my own classroom.

During my undergrad I fell in love with what being a teacher involves. I’ve always had a passion for helping others, and teaching helped me discover a new way to do just that. One of the defining moments in my college career occurred while at a service learning placement. A teacher said to me, ‘I don’t care how they do, because they don’t care how they do.’ This comment has stuck with me for over five years and has provided me with an extreme passion for the under-dog students.

I know that all students can succeed, because I know that success looks different for each student. My hope is that by showing my students I care about them, and that I believe in them, they will believe in themselves.

My love for teaching students is exceeded only by my love of coaching youth. I believe coaching is a unique teaching experience that is incredibly rewarding. One of my favorite experiences was volunteering as a coach at Camp Ultimate Peace in Israel. Camp UP utilizes the sport of Ultimate Frisbee to promote peace to Israeli Jewish, Arab and Palestinian youth. I can say without doubt, it was the most educational and enlightening experience I have ever had.

When I’m not at school, you can find me adventuring outdoors, playing Ultimate, riding my horses or spending time with my dog Papaya.

Every child should have a caring adult in their lives. And that's not always a biological parent or family member. It may be a friend or neighbor. Often times it is a teacher.
